| The name Maharashtra first appeared in a 7th century inscription and in the account of a contemporary Chinese traveller, Hsuan Tsang.It was ruled by diverse dynasties each of them adding to the cultural flavour of the region and each leaving behind its own distinctive marks.The state of Maharashtra was established in 1960 and it became India's leading state after the favorable economic policies in the 1970s. |
